Our Programs We are proud members of the True Sport Movement. Learn more about our shared principles. We offer programs year round that cater to varied ages and skill levels. Our regular season program runs from May to September with registration taking place in February, March and April. During the fall and winter months we run an indoor gym program that focuses on specific skill development for all players. We offer 3 levels of play during the regular season: House-league, Select and Rep. The House-league is structured with learning the game, advancement and FUN in mind. Beginning with our Blastball division (5 & 6 yrs) we use the very popular "Blastball" program. This introductory level to the sport combines instructional games and activities with lots of FUN. Teams are kept small to allow maximum involvement by everyone. Games are generally once a week and include pre-game “Learn to Play” skill development sessions, as adopted by Softball Canada. Players are required to have their own batting helmets and gloves at their Learn to Play sessions and at the games that follow. The Atom age group (7 & 8 yrs) is split into 2 divisions, Modified and Regular. In the Modified division the coach pitches to his/her own team while in the Regular division a player pitches to his/her own team. In both divisions each batter is given 5 pitches to hit the ball. Both divisions use the "Learn to Play" program for pre-game skill development. Players are required to provide their own batting helmet and glove. The Mite division (9 & 10 yrs) plays 3-pitch with players pitching to their team mates. This variation of the sport ensures that all players experience lots of offensive and defensive action. Teams generally play 1 game a week and have a pre-game practice session. The Mites have group practices on the weekend. There is a weekday practice slot for those interested in the Select program, where the boys/girls learn and play the fast pitch game. Players are required to provide their own batting helmet and glove. Teams in the Squirt (11 & 12 yrs), PeeWee/Novice (13 & 14 yrs), Bantam (15 & 16 yrs), Midget/Jr (17 - 23 yrs) divisions play regulation fast-pitch softball. Again, teams play 1 or 2 games a week and have 1 practice a week. Squirts have group or individual team practices usually on the weekend. Peewee and Bantam divisions have shared team practice times available to them usually on the weekend. Midgets have shared team practice times during the week. There is a weekday practice slot for those interested in the Select Squirt, Select Peewee/Novice, Select Bantam and Select Midget program. Players are required to provide their own batting helmet and glove. House-League games for most divisions are in the Orleans area. House-League teams are formed just with players registered in the OAFA. We attempt to form divisions of balanced teams to play each other. Some divisions may have to be grouped together if the number of registrants is not sufficient to form 3 or 4 teams in a particular division. Some divisions may also have the opportunity to play areas just outside Orleans as part of their House League schedule. To be eligible for the Select Level program players must be registered on a House League team. The Select level is an advanced or all star level of house league. Players are able to tryout for the Select team if there is enough registration interest and coaching is available. Select teams will play other area select teams in the Ottawa Valley region. Most games will take place in Orleans on pre-scheduled weekends – either a Sat or a Sun. Check the web site for divisions and times. Select teams may also decide to participate in the Select Provincials that are usually held in August. The Rep program is the competitive level with teams of all ages formed on a try-out basis. They compete throughout the region and Eastern Ontario in league play. They will travel throughout the province for tournaments aiming to represent Orleans at the Provincial Championships.
