Parade of
Lights Scores a Grand Slam
In a
softball game – everyone goes to bat and everyone plays the game hard – with
only one real goal in mind – TO HAVE FUN.
But softball fun doesn’t have to stay on the diamond. In fact, players, coaches, managers, parents,
and executive can keep the ball in play all year long – right into
Christmas.
Softball
being the team sport that it is, encouraged the OAFA Promotion Committee (aka team), to set their aims on the Santa Clause Parade of
Lights. Led by Wayne Harvey and his many
elves they figured that the spirit of the game could carry on with the spirit
of Christmas.
With
just under a month of planning, decorating and manufacturing of a ball diamond
scene, the float took shape. From
softball ornaments to candy cane bats; to scoreboard to backstop; to a giant
bat and ball; it all came together with support from Rona, and much dedication
and much enthusiasm on everyone’s part.
The
membership was also excited about the parade and the opportunity to “be in a parade”
– something they “had never before done”.
There were 44 spirited “Rebels” who became a part of the OAFA ball
diamond float. Not only did it sparkle
with lights and decorations – but it sparkled with smiles.
The
project itself brought the spirit of Christmas and the spirit of team work out
in everyone. It proved that Orleans
Softball is a family of fun both on and off the diamond.
Thanks
to everyone that was part of our first annual Parade of Lights celebration.
