The Mite Girls ended their softball
season with a tournament that started on Friday, July 13th. All four teams played each other once through
the round robin. After two games played, all four teams had won one game and
had lost one game. The winners of the next 2 games would advance to the final.
As hard work and
determination would have it, the Grey Prestige Furniture team defeated the Blue
Orleans Cumberland Phonebook team 6-4 and the Red OAFA team defeated the Green OAFA
team 14-12.
This meant that the Green
team would meet the Blue team in the bronze medal game. It was a see-saw battle that could have gone
either way. A few key defensive stops
held Green from tying the game in the bottom of the 5th inning to
hold on to a 14-13 victory.
The final game pitted the
Grey team against the Red team. Having
lost against them in the round robin, the red team was eager to turn the
tide. After the Grey team came from
behind to tie the game at 11-11, the red team had to be on their toes. In the top of the 5th inning, they scored
three runs to make the game 14-11 and then held the Grey team scoreless in the
bottom of the inning to finish in 1st place and win the gold trophy. The Grey
team took home a beautiful silver medal for their hard work.
All children and parents
had a great season and a great tournament. The wrap up games were played with intensity,
sportsmanship and great defensive and offensive plays leaving no team
disappointed with their efforts. Thank
you very much to Mrs. Pam Naylor and her team of assistants – convenor Stuart
Barr, and all of the coaches who made this season a memorable one for young and
old.
