Long-time Orleans Rebels competitive pitcher, Jillian Taylor won the 2007
University of Ottawa Gee-Gee Fastball MVP award at the university's athletic
banquet on April 1, 2008. A number of athletes on the Rebels Junior Rep team in
2007 are members of the Gee-Gee Softball team including Jillian, Erin Durant,
Sam Pantalone, Elissa Sivel, and Sarah Thompson (see www.eteamz.com/ottawaufastpitch/).
In 2008, it is expected that this Rebels/Gee-Gees connection will be
strengthened with the appointment of Gee-Gee head coach Scott Searle as the
Rebels Junior coach and the addition of new player(s) who have allegiances to
both teams.
Here is the content of Scott's speech at the U of O Athletic banquet where Jill
was awarded the 2007 team MVP:
"Jillian was the top pitcher and top hitter on a very successful Gee-Gee team.
She has matured into a very successful athlete and is a role model as a steady
hand and leader on a very young team. She helped spear-head community
initiatives such as Breast Cancer Awareness night and our twin "Bridge to the
Future" clinics for minor athletes in Ottawa. She closed the game and scored in
all 5 Gee-Gee wins at the Championship tournament. She is one of the toughest
outs in the OIWFA and a top notch pitcher. Jillian is an extremely supportive
teammate and helps all new athletes adjust to a University sport career."
(Scott Searle, head coach, April 1, 2008)
